At BJJ UNION, we are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional training environment for everyone. By following these guidelines, you help create a positive experience for all members of our community.
Respect & Sportsmanship
- Treat instructors, teammates, staff, and visitors with respect at all times.
- Show good sportsmanship before, during, and after training.
- Shake hands or bump fists before and after sparring.
- Release submissions immediately when your training partner taps.
- Apply techniques with control and consideration for your partner's safety.
- Bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or termination of membership.
- Respect the beliefs, backgrounds, and values of every member of the academy.
Training Etiquette
- Book your class in advance where required.
- Arrive early and be ready before class begins.
- If you arrive late, ask the instructor for permission before stepping onto the mats.
- Follow the instructor's guidance at all times.
- Pay attention during demonstrations and avoid unnecessary conversations.
- Practise only the techniques being taught unless instructed otherwise.
- If you need to leave the mat during class, inform the instructor whenever possible.
Health & Hygiene
For the safety of everyone:
- Do not attend training if you are unwell or have a contagious illness.
- Do not train with any suspected skin infection until medically cleared.
- Keep fingernails and toenails clean and trimmed.
- Wash your hands after using the bathroom.
- Clean your feet before entering the mats if required by academy procedures.
- Maintain good personal hygiene.
- Cover all cuts, abrasions, or wounds securely before training.
- Immediately inform an instructor if bleeding occurs during class.
Uniform Requirements
- Wear a clean Gi and belt for Gi classes.
- Wear an appropriate rash guard and approved shorts or spats for No-Gi sessions.
- Clothing with zips, buckles, metal parts, or anything that could cause injury is not permitted.
- Remove all jewellery, watches, and piercings before training.
- Avoid wearing makeup that may stain uniforms or mats.
Academy Facilities
- Remove footwear before entering the mat area.
- Wear footwear whenever leaving the mats.
- Use the changing rooms rather than public areas.
- No food is permitted on the mats.
- Keep drinks in designated areas unless otherwise permitted.
- Help keep the academy clean, tidy, and safe for everyone.
- BJJ UNION cannot accept responsibility for lost or stolen personal belongings.
Safety
- Report any injury immediately to an instructor.
- Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring children are prepared before class, including using the bathroom where appropriate.
- Photography or video recording of other members is not permitted without their consent.
- Unsupervised mat use is only permitted when authorised by the academy and is undertaken entirely at the participant's own risk.
